Cupping Therapy in Wheat Ridge, CO
Cupping uses controlled suction to gently lift skin and underlying tissue. It can be useful for broad tension, overworked muscles, and movement that feels compressed or restricted.

The suction creates a different input for tight or sensitive tissue. Cups may be held in place or gently moved depending on the area and goal. The purpose is not to pull toxins from the body.
Broad upper-back tension
The area between the shoulder blades feels dense and difficult to reach with stretching.
Overworked shoulders
Lifting, swimming, climbing, or desk work has left the surrounding tissue guarded.
Hip and glute tightness
Deep pressure feels too aggressive, but the tissue still needs help moving during walking, squatting, or running.
How Dr. Allen decides where and how to cup
Identify the limited movement
Shoulder reach, neck rotation, thoracic movement, hip extension, or another relevant motion is tested first.
Confirm the tissue is involved
Palpation, stretch, and resisted movement help determine whether the muscle matches your symptom.
Select suction and placement
Cup size, location, intensity, and time are adjusted to the area, skin response, comfort, and goal.
Re-test the movement
The original motion is repeated to see whether the area moves more comfortably.
The marks are temporary, and they are not the goal
A pulling sensation
You will feel suction and lift. It should not feel sharp, burning, or numb.
Temporary circles
Red or purple marks may remain for several days. Darkness does not measure toxins or treatment success.
Movement afterward
The area may feel warmer, looser, or mildly tender. Gentle motion is usually more useful than immediately testing maximal load.
Where cupping may be used
Muscle strains
After the acute phase, cupping may support mobility around tissue that remains guarded.
Shoulder pain
Pecs, lats, upper traps, and tissue around the shoulder blade may respond to broad decompression.
Upper back pain
Cupping can be useful when the mid back feels compressed after desk work, driving, or lifting.
Hip pain
Glute, lateral hip, and thigh tissue can become overworked when hip mobility or loading changes.
Cupping therapy FAQ
Are the marks bruises?
They can look similar, but they are caused by suction affecting small vessels near the skin and usually fade over several days.
Do darker marks mean more toxins?
No. Color varies with suction, time, location, skin, circulation, and individual response.
Can I work out afterward?
Often yes, but intensity may be modified depending on the area treated and why cupping was used.
Who should avoid cupping?
Broken or infected skin, certain bleeding risks, significant skin sensitivity, and some medical conditions may make it inappropriate.
Give tight tissue a different kind of input
If pressure and stretching keep missing the problem, an evaluation can show whether cupping, another soft tissue method, or joint care is the better next step.
